Kristi Himmelfart

Most unfortunate! That’s ‘Ascension Day’ in the English speaking churches.

It’s a public holiday here, celebrated with church services, coffee and cake, etc, but sadly ignored in much of the rest of the world. Shame really (or very convenient, depending on the way you look at it), because it’s the day the church got it’s “marching orders”:

Then Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; 18 they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will never harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”

19 Then after speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the accompanying signs.

And now, in keeping with the initial ‘levity’ (pun intended) of this post, here is a rather unfortunate English  hymn verse, from the other end of the church year (eschatologically speaking):

Rejoice in glorious hope! Jesus the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up to their eternal home.
We soon shall hear th’archangel’s voice;
The trump of God shall sound, rejoice!

So, happy Ascension Day, apologies for the humour (I manage to control the 10 year old in me most of the time), and here are a couple of pictures of Senja:
