69.2294° N and 68.4° C

We’re having a bit of a heat wave here in the Arctic, and at about 5pm today the temperature in Finnsnes (or at least on our porch) almost equaled our latitude! Now, before the meteorologists among you begin to protest about unscientific measuring techniques, I must say that in the shade it was only about 30° C. However in full sun the old fashioned mercury thermometer topped out at about 48°C / 118°f, but the digital thermometer reached 50.9°C / 123°f (external sensor) and 68.4°C / 155°f (internal sensor). The only problem (apart from a bit of sunburn) was that at about 50°C / 122°f the screen went black so we had to wait for it to cool down before we could find out how hot it got.

By the way, it was 11° C hotter than death valley.
